Description
Great Blue Lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica) is a showy perennial wildflower that hits about 2–3 feet tall, with clusters of blue to lavender blooms popping up from July through October. A member of the bellflower family, its serrated leaves and rare blue hue really stand out, and bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies can’t resist its sweet nectar. Native to the Midwest and eastern U.S., it loves moist to wet soil and full to partial sun, and most critters leave it alone thanks to its mild toxicity. It’s a short-lived perennial—lasting about 2–4 years—but its vibrant color and pollinator-friendly vibe make it a garden favorite.
