Medium Soils / Full to Partial Sun / Wildlife Cover
Our supplemental mix is designed to be used with the practice of edge feathering providing cover and forage for different wildlife species.
The edge feather mix is a multi-species blend of native grasses and forbs that are designed to create a soft edge between a heavily forested area and an open field. This seed mix provides a lot of security and safety, cover, and visual screening that allows animals that live on edge habitats and need to have access to food, protection, and shelter.
Quail, for example, is a species that needs both open land and wooded areas. Birds often inhabit ‘edge’ areas where they have overhead cover, food, security, and the freedom to utilize both open & wooded areas for their needs. the edge feather mix creates more of this transitional habitat for wildlife. Deer are also edge creatures, using these areas to travel safely during daylight hours.
Using the edge feathering mix is a way to promote more daylight activity, soften the edges of the land, and provide more food & cover on the landscape. Due to availability and the fact that many species are wild-harvested, this mix can vary from season to season. This mix sheet is the current version, 2023, of the ‘edge feather’ mix.
