Description
Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) is a native, warm-season, bunch-type, perennial native grass found throughout much of the United States. This intermediate stature native grass is an important species for many uses, applications and ecosystems. Little Bluestem has a dense root system that may reach 5 to 6 feet in depth. This grass reaches heights of 2 to 4 feet tall and blooms from June through August.
- The extensive root system and adaptable nature make it an excellent option for erosion control.
- The plant has an open growth habit, producing clumps of light green leaves at the base with narrow stems extending upward with the occasional spike of purplish flowers.
- ‘Aldous’ Little Bluestem grows in areas with full sun or partial shade and requires well-drained soil.
- This seed continues to perform well under various environmental conditions including drought during summer months as well as extreme winter weather.
