Cream Wild Indigo (Baptisia bracteata), named for its elegant buttercream-colored blossoms, is a bushy perennial with large, showy flower spikes. One of the first flowers seen in the spring, the Cream Wild Indigo is often visited and pollinated by queen bees. It should be noted that it takes several years for seedlings to bloom and thus benefit the local bee community.
Cream Wild Indigo grows 1 to 2 feet tall and is wider than many prairie native wildflowers. The plant blooms during the spring and early summer (Mar-June), and is most often found in the Midwest of the United States, where it flourishes in full to partial sun conditions and well drained moist soil.
