Canada Milkvetch (Astragalus canadensis) is a short-lived perennial with clusters of small, creamy white tubular flowers with yellow centers.

  • With its rhizomatous root system, it is often used for erosion control.
  • It is a favorite of nectar-seeking pollinators, including hummingbirds and honeybees.
  • As a legume, it attracts seed-eating birds such as turkey in late summer/early autumn.

Canada Milkvetch blooms during throughout the summer (June-Sept). It is native to the most of the continental United States, excluding the extreme southwestern and southeastern regions. It will tolerate a most soil types but grows best in medium wet to medium dry soil in full to partial sun conditions. It is adapted to hardiness zones 3-8
