Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) is a native, warm-season, bunch-type, perennial native grass found throughout much of the United States. This intermediate stature native grass is an important specie for many uses, applications and ecosystems. Several improved breeds offer varying degrees of adaptability, heat and drought tolerance and forage quality. Each have a dense root system that may reach 5 to 6 feet in depth. This grass reaches heights of 2 to 4 feet tall and blooms from June through August.

• The extensive root system and adaptable nature make it an excellent option for erosion control.
• The plant has an open growth habit, producing clumps of light green leaves at the base with narrow stems extending upward with the occasional spike of purplish flowers.
• ‘Aldous’ Little Bluestem grows in areas with full sun or partial shade and requires well-drained soil.
